Description:

Manufactured in 1896, this is an outstanding example of an early production Winchester Model 1894 rifle in standard configuration, as well as chambered in the desirable .38-55 W.C.F. These standard configuration rifles were often viewed as utilitarian tools during their working lives, and thus, few examples in high condition like this one remain. The standard two-line address is marked on the top flat of the barrel along with the caliber marking at the breech. The three-line model, trademark, and patent date is on the upper tang, and the serial number is marked on the bottom of the receiver. It is fitted with a German silver blade front sight and an elevation adjustable buckhorn/sporting rear sight. It is mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock, showing some attractive contrasting straight grain, and is fitted with a crescent buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, retains 90% plus of the original blue finish, 80% of the vibrant case colors on the hammer and lever, and 80% of the bright original nitre blue remaining on the loading gate with some thinning to brown on the left side of the magazine tube and scattered light handling marks. The wood is very fine with some scattered light handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
