Mechanical improvements from its popular predecessors were made by Smith & Wesson, the American, Russian and Schofield models, and spawned a series of wide ranging variations, including a target model that dominated target competition in the late 19th century. This example has subsequently been beautifully custom engraved by Arnold Griebel, a world class mid-20th century engraver. Both sides of the frame are embellished with semi-relief game panel scenes: a grizzly bear on the left and a bison on the right. The barrel, cylinder, top strap, frame, and grip straps are decorated with flourishes of fine scrollwork. Griebel signed his work on the butt. Blade front sight, square notch adjustable rear sight, and matching serial numbers on the butt, cylinder, barrel, and barrel latch. A storage wood case is included.

Extremely fine as masterfully embellished and signed by A. Griebel, with overall bright metal surfaces and crisp engraving. The grips are excellent with limited handling marks and attractive color. Mechanically fine.
