Description:

These revolvers are even more rare than their Registered Magnum model counterparts with only about 1,400 manufactured compared about 5,400 Registered Magnums. Production of Registered Magnums was stopped because it was deemed to costly to manufacture the revolvers, which at the time sold for $60. The accompanying factory letter (copy) states that this revolver was one of 15 units with a 3 1/2 inch barrel, Baughman quick draw front sight, and blue finish ordered for the St. Joseph Police Department. These 15 revolvers were shipped on February 13, 1940 and delivered to Wyeth Hardware Co. of St. Joseph, Missouri. This revolver is consecutively serialized to the previous lot that was in the same shipment. The revolver has standard S&W markings, a Baughman quick draw front sight, an adjustable square notch rear sight, humpback hammer, and pearl grips. Matching serial numbers appear on the butt, ejector shroud, and cylinder. The matching assembly number "44047" is found on the inside of the frame and crane. The 3 1/2 inch barrel was a short barrel length coveted by law enforcement.

Rating Definition:

Fine, retaining 99% plus period refinished blue finish showing minimal handling marks and faint cylinder drag line. The replacement grips are also very fine with a couple slight chips at the heel and attractive fiery colors. Mechanically excellent.
