Description:

Offered here is a full length rifle scabbard manufactured by Winchester Repeating Arms Co. The overall length is approximately 46 inches, and it is constructed of light brown/tan leather. The scabbard holds a Winchester Model 1873 or an 1892 rifle with a 24 inch barrel. There is a suitcase style handle, a shoulder strap, and a flap that buckles closed on the butt end. The retention strap of the handle is marked "WINCHESTER/REPEATING ARMS Co./NEW-YORK". The back side of the scabbard is also marked "GEO. E. DOLL HELENA MONTANA". Includes an antique padlock marked with an "S&Co" monogram (Sargent & Company). Major George E. Doll (d. 1922) was a competitive rifle shooter at the Helena Rifle Club, a noted big game hunter, a member of the Montana State Fish and Game Commission appointed in 1907, the organization's secretary, and the inspector of small arms on the staff of Governor Joseph K. Toole.

Rating Definition:

Very good showing authentic period use with broken closure strap, some loose stitching, flex wear in center , and handling/storage marks. A very hard to find companion piece for your Model 1873/1892 rifle!
