Description:

William Andrew Beckwith was Wattel Clark's apprentice in 1785, free of the Gunmakers Co. in 1801, assistant and livery in 1805, and master first in 1808. He opened his own business at 58 Skinner Street, Snow Hill, London, and died in 1841 per Blackmore. The Damascus barrels have a bead front sight, "---BECKWITH LONDON ---" signed on top of the rib in gold inlay, and "1022 F" on the undersides at the breech. The locks have "BECKWITH" in gold ovals, rainproof pans, frizzen spring rollers, and some light floral, bird, and border engraving. The furniture also has burst, floral, and hunting themed engraving. The ramrod entry pipe and wedge escutcheons are silver, and the former has a stylized pineapple finial. The trigger plate finial also has a pineapple finial, and the trigger guard bow has a dog and bird scene. The stock has a checkered wrist and oval cheekpiece. The gun comes in a relined case with shot and powder flasks, a leather wallet with a cleaning kit, and flints.

Rating Definition:

Very good with nearly all of the refinished brown and distinct twist patterns along the barrels, light original case colors, mottled gray and brown patina on the balance, absent lock screw, and some mild oxidation. The stock is also very good with crisp checkering, minor scratches and dings, internal cracking, some faint repairs, and nice figure. Mechanically fine. The relined case and the accessories are very good and have minor wear.
