A scarce pre-war Swedish commercial contract Walther Mod. HP pistol with early proofmarks and high polish blue finish. These early Swedish contract pistols are considered the first variation M/39, second developmental stage production pistols, with distinctive features such as an external extractor, fat safety lever, thin rear sight and checkered takedown lever with square firing pin. There were only approximately 1,000 pistols in this production run, with most either destroyed or retained in Sweden. Many or all of these features were changed on later production models. The left side of the slide is marked with the Walther Banner, "Waffenfabrik Walther Zella-Mehlis (Thur)/Walther's Patent Cal. 9m/m", and "ModHP". The right side of the slide is Swedish unit marked "I 6 No. 63", which corresponds to the "6th Infantry Regiment, pistol inventory number 63." These unit markings were hand stamped by the Swedish Army after receipt of the individual pistols, and are considered very scarce today as most of these markings were removed once the pistols were cleared for the commercial market. The right side of the slide and barrel are "Crown/N" proofed, with the matching "1339" serial number correctly stamped on the inside of the slide, "H1339" on the front of the barrel and right side of the frame, and "339/a" partial on the underside of the locking block. Fitted with checkered black plastic HP pattern grips marked "Cewe," 480," "MD with V7/Z3," and "1" on the interior. Includes a replacement "1972" numbered blue magazine.

Excellent, retaining 90% plus original high polish blue finish with light edge wear, dried grease, plum coloration on the frame, mild thinning, and scattered minor scrapes, scratches, and handling marks. The grips are exceptionally fine with limited minor scuff and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
