Description:

Dating to the early 19th century and originally made as a flintlock, this pistol was subsequently professionally converted to percussion, possibly by Witton, Daw & Co. c. 1853 given their label within the case. Browned smoothbore Damascus barrels with concave rib signed "H NOCK LONDON MAKER TO HIS MAJESTY" and silver blade front sight. Traces of a proof and "TWISTED" on the underside of the left barrel. Lightly scroll engraved casehardened breech plugs and locks, the latter each signed "H-NOCK" and featuring a sliding safety and stepped tail. Engraved blued steel ramrod entry pipe and trigger guard with stylized pineapple finials. Silver wedge and vacant wrist escutcheons. Checkered panels on the grip of the half-stock. With wooden rod with covered worm. In associated fitted case with a Witton, Daw & Co. trade label, green baize lining, "1815" dated half-penny, pouch of balls, oiler, "22" marked ball mold, Eley Bros. cap tin, small powder flask, nipple wrench, screwdriver, and loading/cleaning rod with a covered worm and a jag attachment.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 60% of the fading older rebrowned finish and distinct Damascus twist patterns on the barrels, 90% fading older recasehardened finish, aged patina on the silver, 80% original blue on the furniture, distinct markings, crisp checkering and engraving, and mild overall wear, including some small dings and scratches on the stock. The older refinish probably dating to the time of conversion. Mechanically fine. The flask has a poorly fitting top and replacement spring. The case and other accessories have age and storage related wear.
