Description:

The Model 1917 was the service rifle most used by infantrymen of the American Expeditionary Force (AEF) throughout World War I and continued to see use up through World War II and beyond as a surplus arm, making original unaltered examples with a high level of retained finish a rarity. Barrel is marked "W/flaming bomb/9-18", winged fixed blade front and elevation adjustable ladder peep rear sights, standard receiver markings, and "flaming bomb" proof on left receiver wall. With correct "flaming bomb" and "W" stamped, "NS" marked nickel steel bolt. "E" marked Eddystone replacement handguard ring. Smooth oiled walnut semi-pistol grip stock with "eagle head/509" proof behind the triggerguard, "W" on the nose, and steel trapdoor buttplate. Includes a "M.D.C./H&P.1918" marked M1907 leather sling.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, retaining 90% plus original overall blue finish with limited minor edge wear and limited minor smooth brown/grey patina mostly on the bolt handle and buttplate. The stock is excellent with outstanding original oil finish and raised grain. Mechanically excellent. It would be difficult to find another Winchester Model 1917 rifle in similar condition!
