Developed in the late 1970s to early 1980s, the Scharfschützengewehr 82, or SSG82, was designed specifically for use by the East German Ministry for Sate Security (Stasi) as a police sniper rifle. The development of the project was fueled by the Stasi's desire to procure a domestically produced design over foreign options, chambered for the same 5.45x39 mm cartridge used by the Combloc AK-74 service rifle and its derivatives. Manufactured without sights, featuring a right side mounted push safety and detachable double-stack box magazine. The bottom of the barrel is CAI import marked, with "eagle/N" proofs on the left side of the chamber and receiver. Fitted in a over-sized birch stock with finger grasping groves, texturing on the forend and semi-pistol grip, raised cheek piece, and removable spacers ahead of the rubber butt pad. With serial number matched Zeiss ZF4 4x scope.

Excellent, retaining 90% plus blue finish with slight plum coloration to the barrel and scope mounts, a few light scratches, and minor edge wear. The stock is very fine with thinning oil finish, a few light rub marks, a chip missing from the bottom of the grip, and some light gouges. The scope is excellent with clear optics. Mechanically excellent.
