Description:

This is an exceptional example of a WWII Springfield Armory M1C sniper rifle produced in late 1944 that was sold through the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) in 1997-99 timeframe. Unlike the U.S. Army overhauled rifles which show a smooth parkerized finish and a fully cartouched stock. This Korean war era rifle is complete with an original WWII blued Griffin & Howe M1C sniper mount with the correct G&H markings on top between the rings that is serial numbered (3,597,631) on the side, the original WWII matching scope base, numbered on the underside of the base. An original M84 sniper scope (still packaged and sealed in the original foil pack), a HART flash hider, MRT-52 leather lace on cheek piece, a GI canvas sling still in the Army pack. The receiver has the standard M1 receiver markings over serial number, 3534585, and the barrel is marked "S-A/9-51" indicating an early Korean war rebuild (consistent with the fact that most of all M1C were rebuilt after WWII) which probably saw actual sniper service. It has correct Springfield marked parts, as follows; trigger housing is marked " D28290-16-SA", the trigger guard is unmarked, and the bolt is marked "D28287-12SA/S-B3", operating rod is marked "D35382-SA" (with modified cut). The rear sight set and gas cylinder are as follows; elevation knob marked "HN" with the windage knob marked "DRC" with the late WWII/postwar production wide based version with the WWII round top gas cylinder lock with the late four slot gas plug. It has the correct all walnut stock and hand guard set with an excellent matching brown color on all three parts.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as arsenal refurbished overall with 98% of the Korean war era heavy rough textured, green parkerized finish with one small spot of finish loss on the lower heel of the receiver. The original G&H M1C mount retains 98% original blue finish with minor edge wear. The stock and hand guards are also very fine with a nice matching medium brown color with an excellent smooth appearance overall with just a couple of very minor handling marks. A small section has been replaced by the buttplate. Mechanically excellent. A desirable M1C sniper for the Korean War era.
