Description:

An exceptionally fine original example of the first pistol chambered for the 9 mm Parabellum (9 mm Luger) cartridge, the DWM Model 1902 American Eagle "Fat Barrel" Luger semi-automatic pistols were intended specifically for the lucrative United States commercial market. Approximately 600-700 of these pistols were manufactured, and are typically found in the serial number ranges 22100-22300 and 22450-22900. Features fixed blade front and notch rear sights, with "American eagle" crest on the chamber, "DWM" monogram on the front toggle link, and early Luger features to include dished toggles with toggle lock on the right side, recessed breech block, flat recoil spring, grip safety and no stock lug. The front of the frame is marked "GERMANY", appropriate to an American import of the era. The barrel is marked with faint "crown/B," "crown/G," and "crown/U" proofs, while the extension and toggle link are marked with "crown/B" and "crown/U" proofs. Matching "commercial" serial numbers on the barrel and frame, with matching "96" partials on the small parts including the extension. Fitted with straw finished small parts, a pair of finely checkered walnut grips, and a nickel finished magazine with a walnut base correctly marked "Cal. 9m/m" on bottom.

Rating Definition:

Fine, retaining 50% plus faded original blue finish with light edge wear, thinning on the frame, and 50% original straw colors on the small parts. The grips are also very fine with some light handling marks and defined checkering. Mechanically excellent.
