The lock is marked "1863/TOWER" at the center and St. Edward's Crown without the "VR" below at the rear indicating this was a commercial arm, not one accepted by the British government. Many British companies exported rifles and carbines such as this one for use by both the Confederacy and the Union during the American Civil War. Solid front sight and rear sight with 100-300 yard leaves, and sling bar and ring mounted on the left. The barrel has the standard double 25 bore size marks indicating .577 caliber. Provenance: Property of a Distinguished Southern Clergyman

Rating Definition:

Fine, retains 30% original blue finish on the barrel and strong patterns of muted case colors visible on the lock with moderate corrosion on the balance. Stock is also fine with defined edges, scattered scratches and dents, and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
