Description:

This classic pair of Queen Anne pistols from the second quarter of the 18th century are marked "E NORTH" on the undersides above London proofs flanking the "EN" maker's mark for gunmaker Edward North of London who was active c. 1733-1761. They are also marked "1" and "2" respectively. The top of the breeches are marked "LONDON", and there is some scroll and border engraving. The smoothbore, cannon style barrels have turned rings and light engraved breech end borders. The walnut stocks have raised relief shell carving and silver mounts consisting of classic grotesque mask pommel caps, martial pattern side plates, and wrist escutcheons with shell and scroll accents.

Rating Definition:

Very good overall with mottled gray patina and minor oxidation on the iron, attractive aged patina on the silver, minor dings and scratches on the wood, and crisp engraving and relief carving. Mechanically fine.
