Description:

Manufactured in the late 18th century. The octagonal to round two stage cannon style barrel is smoothbore and is decorated with engraving with a foliate chiseled girdle with gilt backgrounds at the transition, gold inlaid foliate scrollwork inhabited by birds on the breech section, a sunken gold lined "crown/FRo/DOIZ/TUA" maker's mark (possibly relating to or for a relative of Antonio Doiztua, master examiner at Plasencia), a fleur-de-lis pattern gold inlaid band ahead of the bright foliate and border engraved standing breech, and a gold vent. The bright, flat lock plate has border engraving, and the lock components are finely chiseled. The priming pan is gold lined. The silver mounts includes foliate, martial trophy, and border designs. A belt hook is fitted to the left. The stock features attractive molding, raised relief floral carving, and a raised relief crown over crossed cannons and other martial trophies at the wrist. Rating Definition:

Very fine with 75% plus blue, bright original gold, silver-gray patina on the standing breech and lock, minor oxidation, attractive aged patina on the silver mounts, and generally light age and storage related wear. Aside from a repaired crack in the forend, the stock is fine and has crisp carving and minor wear. Mechanically fine.
