The included factory letter confirms the pistol's configuration, including caliber, barrel length, blue finish, type of stocks not listed, and furnished with an adjustable rear sight when shipped alone to Hibbard, Spencer, Bartlett & Co. of Chicago, Illinois, on August 11, 1939. Features fixed blade front and adjustable notch rear sights, "MATCH/COLT 45 AUTO" marked on the underside of the blued barrel with polished chamber hood, checkered slide stop, thumb safety, short trigger, and wide hammer, along with an arched checkered mainspring housing. The left side of the matching numbered slide has the standard two-line address and patent dates, while the right has the standard "NATIONAL MATCH" and Colt markings followed by the "rampant colt", with matching "182/148" serial number marked behind the firing pin stop. The frame is marked with "X" and VP" on the left of the trigger guard, with "GOVERNMENT MODEL" and serial number on the right side. Fitted with a pair of checkered walnut grips. The two-toned magazine has a pinned base. Includes the original numbers matching Colt factory box with hang tag, original factory test fire target, manual, and bore brush.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, retaining 90% original blue finish along with minor edge wear, some thinning on the main spring housing, limited spotting and brown patina, a faint takedown drag line, minor cycling wear, and otherwise limited handling marks. The grips are excellent with original oil finish and well defined checkering. Mechanically excellent. Box is fine with detached lid, staining, edge wear, slight compression, and mostly retained end label along with clear serial number on the bottom. This example would be a exemplary addition for any advanced Colt or National Match collection!
