Description:

Manufactured in mid-1942, one of 3,386 M2 rifles completed by the U.S. Springfield Armory before production ceased in July of that year as found on page 300 of "The 1903 Springfield Rifles" by L. Col. (Ret.) William S. Brophy, with pages 295 to 303 further detailing the model. Features fixed blade front and adjustable Lyman 48C target peep rear sight, a "SA/5-42" marked barrel with "LONG RIFLE/CART'GE ONLY" on the left, "M2" marked polished third type bolt with adjustable head-space and matching "19911" serial electro-penciled into the underside, standard receiver roll marks, and speed locking striker assembly. Fitted with a smooth NRA sales pattern walnut stock with grasping grooves, open box "S.A." cartouche, "circle P" firing proof on the pistol grip, and heavy checkered steel buttplate without trap door. Includes an unmarked M1907 pattern leather sling.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, retaining 98% plus original dark armory parkerized finish with edge wear from a front sight cover at the muzzle, minor spotting, dried grease, and minor handling evidence. Stock is also excellent with original oil finish, minor scuffs, and crisp grasping grooves and markings. Mechanically excellent.
