Description:

This exact pistol is pictured on page 225 of the book "The P.38 Pistol, Volume 3" by Warren Buxton and is noted as having a rare HZa stamp of the Heeres Zeugamt (Army Material Office), who controlled sixteen master depots. On page 224 of the book, the author indicates that this rare stamp remains a mystery on the very limited few P.38s it has been seen on, and that it is not believed to be a rework or repair stamp. The stamp consists of an eagle above "HZajc3" located on the right of the slide. Fixed sights, "byf/44" Mauser code marked left of slide, "eagle/WaA135" proofs on the right of the slide, left of the frame, left of the barrel and right of the locking block, with matching serial numbers on the frame, slide, barrel and locking block. Eagle and "BH" stamp of the Bundesheer (Austrian Army) on the left of the frame, with an import mark on the right. Fitted with a later replacement blued Walther magazine dated "11/64" on the rear of the body. Provenance: The Warren Buxton Collection; Property of a Gentleman

Rating Definition:

Very fine, retains 90% arsenal refurbished blue finish with some scattered patches of light pitting visible underneath the finish. Grips are also very fine with some scratches and handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
