Description:

Manufactured by Michael B. Suchka of Valley Engraving of Clarington, Ohio, this is an attractive scale copy of the Model 1878 Gatling Gun. One of the earliest proper repeating firearms and forerunner to the true "fully automatic" machine gun, the crank powered Gatling Gun was a signature weapon of the 19th century, readily identifiable and world famous. The Valley design includes some "quality of life" improvements, most prominently an integral mounting point for a brass catching bag (included), a spring loaded safety knob on the lower left side of the frame, ball detent timing mechanism for the Broadwell Drums, and some upgrades of the internals, but fine attention has been paid to preserving the distinctive profile of the weapon. Blade front and (absent) elevation adjustable notch rear sights on the right side rail, with a reproduction Colt Patent Firearms data plate on top of the frame, a series of modern warning labels on the tray for the Broadwell Drum, engraved directions on the left side rail for operating the safety, and the manufacturer and distributor markings on the underside. Included with the lot is a brass, steel and wood tripod with T&E mechanism, three Broadwell Drum magazines (each marked as having a 100 round capacity), and some spare parts.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, with 90% plus original blue finish, with a few spots of rust and minor handling marks. The tripod is very fine, with light wear and a small bend in the elevation rod. The crank arm is a bit loose on the shaft and needs adjustment, otherwise mechanically fine.
