"An Almain Armourer's Album. Selections from an original MS. in Victoria and Albert Museum, South Kensington. With Introduction and Notes by Viscount Dillon" reproduced and printed by W. Griggs of London in 1905. The armorer and author of the manuscript is believed to be Jacob Topf (1530-1597) and was compiled by Master Armourer Jacob Halder between 1557 and 1587. The colored plates within the book illustrate various suits of armor owned by a variety of English nobles. The notes are by Harold Dillon, 17th Viscount Dillon (1844-1932), former president of the Royal Archaeological Institute and then president of the Society of Antiquaries of London as and a founding fellow of the British Academy and antiquary of the Royal Academy. He later served as the president of the Society for Army Historical Research. The vellum bound book measures 20 inches tall by 13 3/8 inches wide and 1 1/8 inches tall. This rare book was acquired by Norman R. Blank from Francis Edwards Ltd. in July 1958. Provenance: Francis Edwards Ltd; The Norman R. Blank Collection
