A takedown variant of the Type 99 rifle, the Type 2 is designed to be carried in a jump bag by a paratrooper and rapidly reassembled after landing, reducing dependence on sperate equipment drops. Blade front and folding rear sights with anti-aircraft wings, an untouched mum on the receiver, and a smooth pistol grip stock with a leather sling outfitted with a quick-detach hook at the rear and a cupped steel buttplate. Matching partial serial numbers are present on the bayonet lug, underside of the barrel, dust cover and bolt components, with the "574" assembly number on the left side of the barrel and receiver, the front and rear mounting irons, and the wedge.
