Description:

Manufactured in 1922, calendars such as this were produced by all the major cartridge and firearms companies in the early 20th century as an eye catching advertisement which would gladly be hung by proprietors in hardware stores and sporting goods stores around the nation. The artwork on this example shows part of an equipment load-out for an American solder in World War I hung on a door, with the message "LEST WE FORGET" at the top. The load-out includes a Brodie helmet, gas mask, Springfield Model 1903 rifle, bayonet, and cartridge belt among other items. The art print is signed in the bottom left corner by Charles A. Meurer. The Gorbes printer mark is in the lower left corner. The Peters Cartridge Co. information is marked at the bottom center and the remaining calendar page is for December is stapled at the very bottom. The calendar is matted with olive green and contained in a hardwood frame. The frame measures 40 7/8 inches by 20 1/2 inches overall.

Rating Definition:

Exceptionally fine, the calendar itself shows a distinct image and vibrant colors with very minimal fading, a small crease near the lower left, and a few scattered light scuffs. The frame is fine with a few minor chips near the corners. A very interesting piece to enhance the display of your U.S. military arms collection!
