Built with blued Nitro steel barrels with a single brass bead on the matted concave solid rib which is marked "HUNTER ARMS Co. FULTON, N.Y.", a band of engraving at the breech, and 2 3/4 inch chambers with automatic ejectors. The barrels are fitted to the casehardened sidelock action which displays attractive Grade 4 pattern engraving consisting of a pointing setter on the left and a pointer on the right both in oval scenes and surrounded by scrollwork which continues onto the toplever, tangs, and triggerguard which is marked "J. H. SHIRK". The gun features bushed firing pins, double triggers, and a tang mounted safety with gold "S" indicator. The gun is fitted with a beautifully figured and multi-point checkered splinter forend with engraved fittings and an ebony tip inlay as well as a pistol grip stock with black grip cap and buttplate. Included is a second matching numbered 30 inch barrel set with its own forend. The included factory letter confirms the current grade, two barrel sets, barrel lengths, and barrel steel when it was finished on January 26, 1907. The letter also states that just one gun, this gun, was built with two 30 inch barrel sets from the factory. Also included is a wood and leather takedown case marked "H.S.M." on the lid. Barrel measurements for the extra set (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech .730/.732 inches; choke constriction .004/.020 inches; minimum wall thickness .026/.025 inches. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech .728/.729 inches; choke constriction .031/.030 inches; minimum wall thickness .024/.025 inches; 1 3/4 inch drop at comb; 2 1/2 inch drop at heel; 13 9/16 inch length of pull; weight 7 lbs. 13 oz.

Very fine, retaining 98% refurbished blue finish, flashes of the original case colors in the protected areas with the balance a fine silver patina, and light handling evidence. There is a small crack at the rear of either lockplate; otherwise, the refurbished wood is very fine with a few minor scratches and sharp checkering. Mechanically excellent. The case is good.
