Description:

This late production Colt Model 1848 Baby Dragoon was manufactured in 1850 and has the distinctive squareback trigger guard of the Baby Dragoon and the rectangular cylinder stops and loading lever that became standard on the Model 1849 Pocket. It has the early Hartford engraving attributed to Joseph Delany. This early style features scrollwork without backgrounds and features floral accents and borders and a bestial motif on the hammer. The barrel has a brass cone front sight and "-ADDRESS SAML COLT/NEW-YORK CITY-". The cylinder has the stagecoach hold-up scene. The left side of the frame has "COLTS/PATENT", and the matching serial number is marked on the loading lever, arbor, barrel, frame, trigger guard, and back strap. The factory "dot" is marked by most of the serial numbers. The cylinder is numbered "13430" The wedge is numbered "5/285/530". The revolver comes in a fitted oak case with royal blue lining, cap tin, revolver pattern flask, pouch of ball/bullets, and a brass dual cavity bullet mold.

Rating Definition:

Very good with 85% plus original silver plating, silver-gray patina on the balance, light pitting, crisp engraving and markings, and generally mild wear. The grip is very fine with most of the original varnish remaining, some fading towards the top, minor dings, and some scratches. Mechanically fine. The re-lined case is fair with a cracked lid and moderate wear. The accessories are good with age and storage related wear.
