Description:

This pair of early 19th century German percussion pistols is signed "TETZ" below the springs and "A CROSSEN" above the frizzen springs and may come from Crossen an der Elster in Thuringia. The smoothbore octagon to round barrels feature German silver blade front sights floral blooms, and alternating textured backgrounds. Notch rear sights are fitted to the upper tangs. The locks have additional floral engraving, hammer stalls, and sea serpent hammer. The gilt brass mounts feature rococo patterns, animals, masks and a scene of Diana and two stags on the pommels. The stocks and ramrods have dark horn tips. The notes indicate the stocks are pecan wood. They feature stunning raised relief rococo scroll, shell, and mask carving.

Rating Definition:

Fine with gray and brown patina on the lock and barrel, strong gilt finish on the mounts, and distinct designs throughout. The stock is also fine and has some thin cracks, spliced repair at the toe, and crisp carving. Mechanically fine.

Rating Definition:

Very good with gray patina and minor pitting the lock and barrel, strong gilt finish on the mounts aside from the replacement side plate, and distinct patterns throughout. The stock is also very good and has some minor chips and cracks, and crisp carving. Mechanically fine.
