Offered here is a very attractive period New York engraved Colt New Line .30 revolver fitted with stunning period retailer checkered pearl grips featuring a relief carved dragoon head on the left panel. The engraving consists of floral scrollwork on a punch dot background, wavy and entwining line patterns, diamond motifs, and star bursts. The barrel is stamped with the two-line Hartford address and the highly desirable acid etched "COLT NEW 30" panel with border engraving on the left side. The accompanying factory letter states the revolver was shipped on June 2, 1875, to New York City retailer J.P. Moores Sons with a 2 1/4 inch barrel in .30 Rimfire, finish not listed, and varnished rosewood grips. This was a 33 gun shipment. The retailer case is bound in leather and has silk lining. Very fine as period New York engraved, retaining 90% of the nickel plating. The engraving is crisp. The grips are excellent with a couple patches of wear on the right panel, highly attractive fiery colors, and crisp carving. Mechanically excellent. The case is fine with some wear.
