Manufactured c. 1882-1884, with only approximately 4,000 produced, these revolvers are sometimes referred to as the "cop and thug" model due to the grips, like those on this example, which portray a cop wrangling a criminal. The top of the barrel on this example has the very rare Colt Pall Mall London Agency address, the left side has the desirable acid etched panel marked "NEW POLICE 38", and there are two small British proofs on the lower left. There are additional British proofs between each chamber on the cylinder. The left of the frame is marked "38CAL". It is fitted with a blade front sight, frame-top groove rear sight, and the desirable pair of "cop & thug" grips which feature "COLT" in ovals at the tops and the imagery of a cop restraining a thug at the bottom. Exceptionally fine, retains 90% plus of the original nickel finish with a few scattered spots of very light flaking and a crisp acid etched panel. The grips are excellent with a few very light handling marks, distinct imagery, and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. The case is very fine with some scattered light handling/storage marks.
