Description:

Olaf Wieghorst (1899-1988) was a Danish-American artist who focused on art involving the American West, particularly involving horses. He emigrated to the U.S. in 1918, and from c. 1920-1922, he worked with the mounted patrol of the U.S. 7th Cavalry Regiment. Some of his work featured in Zane Grey's "Western Magazine" as well as in the opening title sequence of John Wayne's "El Dorado". This print focuses primarily on the landscape of the American West, showing a rocky desert scene with a chuck wagon and remuda, or herd of spare cattle driving horses passing through it. The print shows the original signature in the lower left, "57" copyright date in the lower right, a "699/1000" limited edition number in the lower left and a hand signed signature in the lower right. The print is attractively matted with burlap in a hardwood frame which measures approximately 31 3/4 by 37 3/4 inches. Consignor states this item is from the personal collection of Hollywood icon John Wayne, which hung in his office at Deco Engineering, and was given to him by Olaf Wieghorst.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, the print shows distinct image and vibrant color, showing only the slightest handling/storage evidence overall, including the frame. An excellent decor piece for an office or gun room!
