Description:

This "sneak" DWM 29 Police Luger is unmarked on top of the chamber area and on top of the front toggle link, with unit marking "L.M.5" on the front strap, which marks it as the property of the Prussian State Police (Landjagerei). It has a set of "crown/N" proofs on the barrel, upper receiver and breech block and an "eagle/WaA66" proof on the right side of the chamber, suggesting a pistol reworked to police standards. A few other similar examples of DWM 29 Police Lugers, in the same "t" serial block, are pictured on pages 147-149 of Jan C. Still's book "Weimar and Early Nazi Lugers and Their Accessories" in which the caption on page 148 states, "Many 29 DWM Lugers were procured by the Prussian State Police, bear Prussian State Landjagerei unit markings and sear and magazine safeties introduced by Prussian State Police orders dated August 30, 1933." Page 31 of the aforementioned book also states, "Landjagerei grip strap markings are mostly confined to the 't' and 'u' range Lugers and were introduced by orders dated Feb. 25, 1932." Fixed sights, with a functional sear safety fitted to the receiver and a disabled magazine well safety on the left side of the frame. Straw colored small parts, niter blue pins and springs, checkered grips, and a nickel finished magazine numbered to match on bottom along with a "1". The grip panels are unnumbered/unmarked on the interiors, with otherwise all matching visible serial numbers on components, including both of the accompanying magazines, in the police style. Includes a Schambach & Co. Berlin "1929" dated brown leather police holster marked with a sunburst and "L.M.5." Landjagerei unit marking to match the pistol, containing an extra blue finished magazine numbered to match on bottom along with a "3" and a "+", and a takedown tool marked "5." The lot is also accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from noted author Jan C. Still's family verifying it is from his personal collection. Provenance: The Jan Still Luger Collection

Rating Definition:

Excellent, retains 90% plus original blue finish, 70% original straw colors, with filed top of the front sight, and some light holster related edge wear. Grips are also excellent with a few light handling marks and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. Holster is fine.
