Manufactured in 1938, this is a solid example of a factory special order "Fitz special" Colt New Service Model revolver. The included factory letter confirms the caliber, barrel length, and special order features as "trigger guard and rod end cutaway and the hammer filed off", as well as stating it was furnished in square butt configuration with a lanyard swivel (since removed). The letter also states that the revolver was sold to E.C. Seale Service in Prescott, Arizona and was shipped to Momsen-Dunnegan-Ryan Co. in El Paso, Texas on 9 November 1938. These "Fitz specials" were one of the most desirable purpose-built defensive carry sidearms of the first half of the 20th century. The left side of the barrel is marked "45 COLT" and the serial number is marked on the frame and crane. It has a blade front sight fitted on the 2 inch barrel and a frame-top groove rear sight. The front portion of the trigger guard is cut away and the bottom of the frame is contoured. The hammer has been filed off (bobbed). The factory lanyard swivel hole on the butt has been filled. Includes a unique Lawrence leather holster and a pair of checkered walnut grips.

Fine, retains 85% plus of the refinished nickel plating with some scattered patches of light flaking. The period replacement grips are very fine with only the slightest handling marks. Mechanically excellent. The holster is excellent and the extra grips are fine.
