Description:

Introduced in 1860 and found in the 11672-126361 serial number range, this is a fine example of an early production Smith & Wesson No. 1 Second Issue Revolver. This particular example is a scarce early Second Issue variation featuring a "square cut" sideplate, a feature most notable at the rear edge of the sideplate. It is unknown how many of this variation were made during early production of the Second Issue, but an example of one will certainly be absent from many Smith & Wesson Collections. The top of the barrel rib has the one-line address. The cylinder has the patent dates marking. The right grip panel is numbered to the gun.

Rating Definition:

Fine, with the frame retaining 95% of the attractive age darkened original silver plating and the barrel and cylinder having a mottled gray patina with slight traces of original blue finish in the protected areas. The grips are also fine with minor handling marks and most of the original varnish remaining. Mechanically excellent.
