Description:

The barrel of this pistol is signed "A.A.W." for Master Engraver Alvin A. White, one of the most talented American arms engravers in the 20th century. While best known for engraved Colt revolvers, White also had a personal interest in traditional muzzleloading firearms and produced a small number of high quality flintlock and percussion pistols and long guns. This one is inscribed "No. 16" on the left at the breech. The rifled barrel has stars and dots around the muzzle, a blade front sight, pairs of gold inlaid bands at the transition and breech, and scroll engraving on the breech end. A notch rear sight is fitted on the engraved barrel tang. The silver wrist escutcheon is inscribed with the initials "J.A.E." The lock and most of the silver and brass mounts are engraved. The left stock flat includes a silver spread wing bald eagle. The brass pommel cap is shaped like a heart. The stock is nicely figured curly maple. Provenance: The Brig & Louise Pemberton Collection

Rating Definition:

Exceptionally fine with crisp engraving and signature, most of the antiqued brown finish remaining on the barrel, aged patina on the silver and brass mounts, and minor age and handling related wear. Mechanically fine.
