Description:

These rare pistols were manufactured by J. J. Henry in Bolton, Pennsylvania, circa 1836. These Henry pistols were fashioned very closely after the Simeon North U.S. Navy Model 1826. All metal parts were finished bright with the exception of the removable brass flash pan. The lock is marked "J.J. HENRY/BOULTON" in front of the hammer and the top left rear of the barrel is marked "LS US/recessed P". There are no other visible markings on the pistol. The front sight is a brass blade and the rear is dished on the barrel tang. There is a single barrel band, the trigger guard and barrel tang extend to the butt cap, and there is a belt hook mounted on the left side stock flat behind the side plate. It is equipped with a swivel type ram rod mounted on the underside of the barrel. One piece stock with a nice tiger stripe pattern on the grip area and underside. There are no known contracts for this pistol and it's believed that they were made for militia use.

Rating Definition:

Good as reconverted to flintlock configuration. The barrel has been cleaned bright and shows extensive moderate pitting. The remaining metal surfaces have a mottled gray patina with some overall scattered minor pitting, mostly on the hammer. The front sight is worn down almost flush to the barrel. The stock is fair with a small repair just above the rear of the lock, a minor crack on the left and underside, a few minor gouges and handling marks. The action needs adjusting, the hammer hangs up a little when the trigger is pulled. The markings are clear. A nice example of a rare J. J. Henry U.S. Type flintlock pistol.
