Description:

At the time one of the gold standards for compact personal defensive pistols, the Walther PPK was widely adopted by military, paramilitary, police and political organizations throughout 1930s/1940s Germany, including the Allegemeine SS and it's subordinate organizations. This particular PPK is configured following the "First Contract, Third Variation" as defined in "SS Contract Walther PP/PPK Contract Variations and Serial Numbers" by Thomas Whiteman, and is documented by serial number on page 45 of that book; the listing notes one matching magazine, which is still present. The chief defining feature of the Third Variation is the use of a "K under number" serial number pattern (abnormal for the PPK as a whole) and an external slide number (not abnormal for the PPK in total, but unusual for the period), with total production in the First Contract estimated at 2000, with 50 known to the American market . Fixed sights, with the standard markings on the left side of the slide, matching external slide and frame numbers in the aforementioned pattern, matching internal hand-scribed number on the slide, "crown/N" proofs on the slide, muzzle and chamber hood, 60 degree safety, checkered brown plastic grip, and a blued steel magazine with a flat steel baseplate, numbered on the spine "206439/1K". Included with the lot is a black leather Albrecht Kind "Akah" holster and a signed copy of Whiteman's book. Provenance: The Thomas Whiteman Collection

Rating Definition:

Very fine, with 85% of the original blue finish, showing a small amount of pitting on the frontstrap and left side of the slide, wear along the high edges, and light handling marks. A few nicks and dings are present on the left side of the magazine well, with some bending of the lanyard loop and magazine floorplate. The grip is good, with some warpage and a hairline crack visible on the bottom. Mechanically excellent. Holster is very good.
