The gun is built with blued Krupp Special Gewehr Lauf Stahl barrels featuring a single white bead sight on the matted concave solid rib, high attractive wedges of oak leaf and scroll engraving extending 1 3/4 inches from either breech, front sling swivel, a small import mark under the forend, German proof marks dating to May of 1950, and 2 3/4 inch chambers with automatic ejectors. The barrels are fitted to the coin finished sidelock action which displays deep oak leaf engraving on the sideclipped fences and scroll engraving surround a calling capercallie on the underside, a roe buck on the triggerguard, and deep relief engraved game scenes on either lockplate. The left lockplate shows a roaring red stag, two hinds, and a fleeing pheasant in a forested scene and the right lockplate shows a fox flushing a trio of mallards and a hare. Though the work is unsigned, the consignor states that the engraving was carried out by Anton Sodia's firm in Ferlach, Austria. The gun features bushed firing pins, cocking indicators on either lockplate, double triggers, and a tang mounted manual safety. The gun is fitted with a beautifully figured and relief oak leaf carved splinter forend with engraved fittings, an ebony tip inlay, and a bone inlaid acorn and two oak leaves. The pistol grip stock is of the same lovely quality and features the same oak leaf carving at the wrist, comb, and behind the black grip cap, bone inlays at the drop points and on the shadowline cheekpiece, rear sling swivel, and a deeply carved scene depicting a falcon descending on a hare on the left side near the rubber recoil pad. Included is a second matching numbered and engraved 12 gauge barrel set which measures 30 inches and has 2 3/4 inch chambers. Also included is a non-matching takedown case that houses the entire set. Barrel measurements for the 12 gauge set (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech .725/.723 inches; choke constriction .034/.039 inches; minimum wall thickness .041/.044 inches. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech .669/.669 inches; choke constriction .026/.028 inches; minimum wall thickness .038/.041 inches; 1 7/16 inch drop at comb; 2 9/16 inch drop at heel; 14 1/4 inch length of pull; weight 8 lbs. 5 oz.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, retaining 98% plus original blue and coin finishes with minor handling evidence and rub on the left tube ahead of the forend. The wood is very fine with some deterioration of the recoil pad, crisp carving, some minor dings and scratches mainly on the comb. Mechanically excellent. The extra barrel set is very fine with absent sight bead. The case is very good. A wonderful example of a mid-century German shotgun!
