Manufactured in 1885 as one of only 385 guns built in this configuration according to page 290 of "The Parker Story" by Gunther, Mullins, Parker, Price, and Cote. Built with Damascus steel barrels featuring a single bead sight on the matted concave solid rib which is marked "PARKER BROS MAKERS. MERIDEN CONN. DAMASCUS STEEL.", 1991 dated Birmingham proof marks, choke constrictions of .021/.042 inches, and 3 1/2 inch chambers with single extractor. The casehardened action displays sculpted fences along with standard Grade 3 engraving consisting of a setter in a field on the right, a pointer pointing on the left, and a trio of birds on the underside all surrounded by scrollwork. The gun features double triggers and rebounding hammers. The gun is fitted with a nicely figured and multi-point checkered splinter forend with engraved forend iron as well as a pistol grip stock with blank inscription shield, hard rubber grip cap, and skeleton buttplate around checkered bare butt. This gun has sold previously with a Parker letter stating "Parker shotgun, serial number 53759, was ordered by F.H. Wells in Burlington, VT on October 1, 1889. According to Parker Bros. Order Book No.26 it was a quality 3 Top Action hammer, 10-gauge. It featured Damascus steel barrels with a length of 32 inches." Wells was a successful pharmaceutical manufacturer in the Burlington, VT, area. The letter is not included. Very fine, retaining nearly all of the reapplied blue/brown finishes, strong traces of original case colors on the action, some pitting on the triggerguard beneath the finish, and strong Damascus patterns. There are small cracks at the rear of the lockplates and upper tang; otherwise, the wood is also very fine with some dings and well-defined checkering. Mechanically excellent.
