Description:

Established in 1941, the Auto-Ordnance Bridgeport Plant was opened with the express purpose of meeting wartime demand for the Thompson Submachine Gun; originally content to act as the licensee while firms like Colt and Savage saw to the physical construction, the needs of the U.S. and allies abroad changed the math. The Bridgeport 1928A1 was made in a relatively narrow window between the Plant opening in 1941 and October 1942, when it was phased out of production in favor of the further simplified M1 Thompson. Fitted with a blade front sight on the Cutts-marked compensator and a fixed Lyman peep rear sight on the receiver, with a horizontal forearm, "Q" and "S" marked barrel, "W.B." and "crossed cannons" inspected receiver with standard markings, finger grooved pistol grip and detachable buttstock. "I/O" has been stamped into the left side of the forearm, grip and stock. The trigger housing is "GEG" inspected with a Savage "S-488877" serial number on the underside, fitted with a set of smooth control switches, and the underside of the trigger guard marked with "31" in black paint and a label reading "1080HM". Internals follow the 1928 pattern, with an "S" marked bolt, "AOC" Blish lock, "AOC" charging handle, and padded oiler. This Thompson has been subjected to partial deactivation, with a metal plug welded into the breech, the bolt face partially ground down, and the extractor and firing pin discarded. Included with the lot are three stick magazines and a Type "L" 50-round drum magazine.

Rating Definition:

Very good as assembled and partially deactivated, with 70% of the original blue finish on the replacement barrel and compensator and 70% of the arsenal refurbished parkerized finish, showing areas of brown patina on the compensator, thinning and mild scattered wear. The furniture is good, with some dents and scuffs. Not operable as currently configured, and the sear rocker has been discarded disabling the semi-automatic firing mode, otherwise mechanically functions. NOTE: This weapon is a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) that is classified as a "Curios or Relic" as defined in 27 CFR, 478.11. These weapons are still subject to the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 479.
