Manufactured c. 1902-1904 in Germany by Deutsche Waffen- und Munitionsfabriken (DWM) as the first pistols available in the now ever popular 9 mm Luger (9 mm Parabellum) cartridge, largely for export to foreign commercial markets like the U.S., with an estimated total production of 500 to 600 pistols manufactured in the 22100-23500 serial number range as listed on page 70 of "Lugers At Random" (1990 Revision) by Charles Kenyon Jr. Features fixed blade front and notch rear sights, an "American eagle" coat of arms marked on top of the chamber, "DWM" monogram on the front toggle link, the distinct 4 inch long "fat" barrel, a recessed breech block, dished toggle knobs with a toggle lock on the right side of the frame, correctly polished lower safety lever position, "GERMANY" export mark on the front of the short pattern frame without a stock lug, grip safety, and a flat recoil spring on the interior. Matching visible "22879" serial numbers on the front of the frame and underside of the barrel, along with matching partial serial numbers visible on the takedown lever, trigger, slide plate, grip safety. both toggle links, and barrel extension. Fitted with a pair of un-numbered checkered walnut grips marked "*" on the interiors and a replacement nickel plated magazine with unmarked walnut base.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, retaining 80% plus original blue finish and 70% straw colors on small parts with some light edge wear, some light cycling wear, dried grease, some minor patches of visible spotting with some fain pitting on the muzzle and a few areas of the frame, some light handling marks, and a crisp "American eagle" coat of arms on the chamber. The grips are also very fine with some minor handling marks and compression wear in the otherwise crisp checkering. The magazine latch does not fully seat with the magazine inserted, otherwise mechanically excellent. Overall an attractive specimen of the scarce DWM Model 1902 "Fat Barrel" American Eagle Luger pistol chambered in 9 mm Luger!
