Description:

During the 19th and 20th centuries, canes reached their pinnacle of popularity, becoming a must have accessory for those wishing to publicly proclaim their social and economic status. Around that same time, after centuries of practice, modern fox hunting with hounds was also reaching its zenith as a popular sport of the affluent. The antique ivory grip of this cane has been masterfully relief carved into a scene featuring a fox up a tree with a bird it has taken as prey, as well as a determined hound attempting to climb the tree to get at the fox. There is a small buckled collar carved at the base of the grip where it joins the shaft. The shaft is smooth malacca and is tipped with antique ivory. The cane measures approximately 34 3/4 inches overall.

Rating Definition:

Fine, the grip showing an attractively aged tone with a hairline crack near the bottom and a few light chips absent from the collar. The shaft is also fine with some a couple hairline cracks, minor handling marks, and some crazing.
