Description:

Two experimental caliber .41 Special Cartridges manufactured by Remington Arms. These cartridges are the only known examples of a limited run of .41 cartridges manufactured by Remington for Colt as part of a 1932 project to develop a new hunting and law enforcement cartridge for the Colt New Service double action revolver. The .41 Colt Special Cartridge was the brainchild of Colt firearms expert J.H. "Fitz" Fitzgerald and Colt Superintendent Fred Moore. Colt manufactured two New Service revolvers chambered for the .41 Special Cartridge; one revolver had a four-inch barrel and one had a six-inch barrel. Remington manufactured a very limited number of the .41 Special cartridges with several styles of 210 grain lead bullets. The approximate velocity of the new cartridge was 900 feet-per-second. The .41 Special Cartridge was described in detail in the March 1970 issue of SHOOTING TIMES. These two, 3rd Variation, .41 Colt Special Cartridges are among the rarest of all U.S. cartridges. The cartridge cases have no head stamps and are 1.260 inches long. The complete cartridges have flat tip lead bullets and have a total length of 1.630 inches. The cartridges were pictured on the cover of the Summer 2001 issue of THE RAMPANT COLT and in the article on the .41 Special Caliber New Service Revolvers in the Fall 2003 issue of the Rampant Colt.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The brass cases have not been polished and have a mellow age patina. These are some of the rarest of all U.S. cartridges and are unique additions to any U.S. cartridge or advanced Colt collection.
