Colt manufactured 51,210 Model 1878's from 1878 to 1905. This revolver was manufactured in 1884 with the small two line Hartford address on top of the barrel, "COLT . FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER" etched in a panel on the left side, "44 C.F." on the left front side of the trigger guard, the serial number on the butt just ahead of the lanyard ring and the loading gate is marked "242". Blade front and "V" notched rear sights, full ejector rod housing, fire blued small components and checkered grips with the Rampant Colt in an oval at the tops.

Excellent. The revolver retains approximately 85-90% of the untouched totally original nickel finish with thinning on the barrel, rear of the cylinder and front strap and overall light scattered flaking. The trigger and hammer show generous amounts of the fire blue finish. The side plate screw has all of the fire blue finish and the cylinder pin and release have most of the fire blue finish. The grips are very good showing some fading, a few scattered minor dings and crisp checkering. The markings are clear. The action is fine.
