This is a pre-WWI commercial production Colt New Service revolver chambered for the .455 Eley cartridge. That was of the same caliber issued to the British and Canadian military or police forces. Manufactured in 1916. The top of the barrel has the early, small Colt two-line patent and address markings of; "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD. CT. U.S.A., over PAT'D AUG.5.1884. JUNE 5 1900 JULY 4.1905". The left side of the barrel is marked "NEW SERVICE 455 ELEY". The left side of the frame has the Rampant Colt marking on the side plate. The Colt "Verified Proof" is located on the front end of the trigger guard bow with a single number "3" on the rear of the trigger guard bow, and the right side has an unknown marking above the grip. It has the fixed front sight and rear sight is the notched section in the top strap. It is fitted with stag grips and a lanyard loop on the bottom of the frame. It has the matching serial number on the inside of the frame and cylinder crane.

Very fine with approximately 85% of the original blue finish showing numerous mild scattered scratches and dings concentrated on the barrel, small areas of light spotting, and some wear around the high edges. The custom replacement stag grips are near mint with some very light wear. Excellent action.

Manufactured in 1916 this Colt New Service revolver has Canadian property marks on the barrel, frame and cylinder. This type of revolver was extensively used by the British and Canadian forces during WWI. This revolver is marked with the one line address on top, "NEW SERVICE 45 COLT" on the left side and Rampant Colt on the left side of the frame. The left side of the frame is stamped with a small "Broad Arrow" military property mark and a "Crown / 3B / E" proof just forward of the hammer. The crossed pennant proof is marked on the left upper side of the frame just ahead of the cylinder an appears to have a "broad arrow" marking on the rear face of the cylinder. The Colt "VP" proof is marked on the left front side of the trigger guard and a "3" at the rear. All parts are the high polished Colt blue finish with polished hammer sides and a lanyard ring on the butt.

Partially refinished/assembled overall. The later production replacement barrel retains almost all of the refinish. The frame and trigger guard are thinning, the grip straps have a smooth dark patina. The 45 Long Colt replacement cylinder retains most of the refinish with some light rust. There is some scattered light spotting on the frame. The replacement grips are very good with light to moderate wear and minimal handling marks. All markings are clear. The action is tight.
