Description:

Colt M1902 DA Revolver with U.S. markings and distinctive oversized trigger guard. The revolver has the Colt turn-of-the-century high polish commercial blue finish with niter blue trigger and hammer and black, hard rubber, bird's head grips. The grips have the Rampant Colt trademark in an oval at the top. The butt is fitted with the standard lanyard swivel. The top of the barrel has the standard Colt one line address: "COLT'S PT.F.A.MFG.Co. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A." address. The left side of the barrel is marked with the caliber designation: "45 COLT." The encircled Rampant Colt trademark is located on the lower left rear of the frame. The full serial number: "47/169" is stamped on the bottom of the butt in front of the sling swivel and the partial serial number, "7169" is located on the rear face of the cylinder. The underside of the barrel is stamped with a "K" and a "P" proof. The rear face of the cylinder is stamped with a "P" proof and the Ordnance subinspector's initials "R.A.C.". The right side of the revolver frame is marked with the Ordnance inspector's initials "J.T.T." above the grips, the date "1902" on the lower portion of the frame ahead of the grips and "U.S." above the front trigger guard bow. The "R.A.C." subinspector's initials are stamped on the left front trigger guard bow and the left upper portion of the frame just above the grips. The Army purchased about 4600 M1902 Revolvers; some of these were supposedly issued to the Philippine Constabulary.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The revolver retains approximately 90% of the bright original high polish blue finish. The grip straps have the blue starting to fade to a brown patina. The barrel, ejector rod housing and frame all have finish loss on contact points. There is light, scattered, surface rust on the frame and cylinder. The top of the frame has moderate finish loss with some light dents in the sight groove. Approximately 75% of the niter blue finish is present on the hammer and trigger. The grips are very fine with the checkering on the right grip exhibiting moderate handling wear. Markings are sharp. The action is tight and functional. An attractive example of a U.S. contract Colt M1902 DA revolver.
