Description:

Rare "Civilian" Colt M1909 USMC Revolver with Colt factory letter. The 1400 Colt M1909 USMC Revolvers are among the rarest of all Colt martial arms. The Colt factory letter that accompanies this revolver identifies it as a USMC M1909 revolver and states that it was shipped to Col. George Wright on September 7, 1909. This revolver has the distinctive rounded butt contour, checkered walnut grips, lanyard loop, and the Colt high polish commercial blue finish. The trigger and top surfaces of the hammer are niter blue. The ejector rod and lanyard loop have a case-hardened finish. The top of the barrel is marked with the Hartford address and the 1884, 1900 and 1905 patent dates in two lines. The left side of the barrel has the designation: "COLT D.A. 45". The Rampant Colt trademark in a stylized "C" is located on the left side of the frame behind the cylinder latch. The serial number, "25119" is located on the inside of the frame and the cylinder crane. The Colt "VP/Triangle" proof mark is stamped on the left side of the frame above the trigger guard bow. The assembler's number "3" is stamped above the left rear trigger guard bow. The rear face of the cylinder is stamped with the assembly number "4561" under the ejector. A consignor states that this revolver is one of only two known civilian USMC M1909 revolvers.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The revolver retains approximately 95% of the bright original high polish commercial blue finish. There is some light holster wear on the barrel at the muzzle and some edge wear on the high points of the cylinder. There are several minor scratches on the rear of the top strap to the left of the sighting groove. The blue on the back strap is thinning. The balance of the original blue finish is intact with minor handling marks. The grips have minor handling wear with sharp checkering. The bore is bright. Markings are sharp. A unique and well documented Marine Officer's USMC M1909 Revolver in excellent condition.
