Description:

This is an example of the very desirable 7 1/2 inch barreled Colt New Service revolver in 44-40 W.C.F. that was shipped in 1925 to Von Lengerke and Detmold New York, NY. This company was probably the biggest retailer of firearms and hunting equipment in the early 1900s and usually only catered to the wealthiest clientele on the East coast. This specific pistol is a standard blue model with carved, "Steer Head" ivory grips. This pistol is accompanied with a factory letter date July 2007 that confirms this exact configuration of this pistol as a single gun shipment on factory order number 10239/1. The top of the barrel is marked in a two-lines: "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A. over PAT'D AUG 5, 1884 JUNE 5 1900 JULY 4. 1905" and the left side of the barrel is marked in small letters "NEW SERVICE 44-40". The frame has the Rampant Colt logo behind the late style checkered cylinder latch and the Colt "VP" Verified Proof mark is located on the left side of the frame above the trigger guard bow and the assembler's number, "3" is located above the rear trigger guard bow. The hammer spur is checkered and it has the smooth front and rear grip straps and trigger. It is fitted with a set of ivory grips with silver Colt medallions at the top. The revolver has the Colt prewar commercial blue finish with the polished hammer and lanyard loop on the bottom of the butt. The serial number is located on the inside of the frame and the crane.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with approximately 98% of the original Colt factory blued finish with just minor edged and high spot wear overall with a slight cylinder drag line. The carved ivory grips are also in excellent condition with exceptional detail on the carving. Overall just an exceptional example of a prewar large frame New Service Colt revolver.
