Description:

This lot consists of two WWII items: 1) A mint condition example of a WWII Everett trench knife that was used by the U.S.M.C., Army Special Services and SOE. This is the scarce first pattern knife with the Green painted handle. The knife has a double edge straight sided stabbing blade with a single blood groove in the center. The handle is cast aluminum knuckle knife style with the name EVERITT, cast into the handle below the grip. The scabbard is similar to the M6 style scabbard with a single row of stitching and ten flat top black rivets around the edge of the scabbard. On the back of the scabbard is a single flat steel reinforcing plate. 2) The other item is reported to be an original WWII "Toy Cricket" as used on the D-Day invasion so that friendly troops (airborne, pathfinders and rangers) could signal each other and avoid running in to Germans. These were made famous in the 1960s film the "Longest Day". This cricket is 3-1/2 inches long and has a painted yellow back ground with a dancing Black Minstrel player on the face playing a saxophone. Both items are tied down in a very nice sealed, pine box display case with red velvet back ground. In the corner is a small information card that describes both items and is noted as having been in the collection of Bryan Corbin Jr. 1985.

Rating Definition:

Excellent overall, the Everett Knuckle Knife is probably the best we have ever seen. On the side that is visible it clearly has 98-99% of the original light blued finish on the blade with just some minor edges wear and in the center over the blood groove probably from being slide in and out of the scabbard. The aluminum handle also has 98-99% of the original and very fragile green painted finish with just a couple of spots that have flaked off. The scabbard has a nice light brown leather color that appears never to have been oiled with 99% black finish on top of the rivets and excellent stitching. The toy cricket is in excellent condition with a solid 98-99% of the painted face with just a couple of wear spots, obviously from light use.
