U.S. Army issued M1901 Revolver, manufactured in 1903. The revolver has a high polish blue finish. The grips are oil finished walnut and both sides are stamped with a small "RAC" inspection mark on the heel. The barrel is marked: "COLT D.A. 38" on the left side and has the two line Colt address and patent dates on the top. The bottom of the barrel is stamped with a "P" proof mark. "RAC" inspection marks are stamped on the rear face of the cylinder, underside of the barrel and the left rear of the frame. The butt is marked: "U.S . /ARMY / MODEL / 1901 / NO / 196 / 440". The assembly number "6440" is stamped on the inside of the crane, the inside of the frame and on the cylinder latch and "9347" on the underside of the barrel. The lanyard loop is mounted on the butt.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The revolver retains approximately 75- 80% of the original blue finish evenly flaking on the barrel and right side of the frame, and areas where finish has simply flaked going to an even brown patina. Overall minor scratches, and just starting to spot (nothing significant). The grips are very good plus with minor chips and mars at the edges of the butt and top left of the frame, but generally good overall. The action is crisp. All markings are clear.
