Description:

This revolver was manufactured circa 1918 -1919. The M1917 Colt DA Revolver was the military version of the Colt New Service Revolver purchased by the War Department to supplement the M1911 Pistol. The M1917 was widely issued during both WWI and WWII. The revolver has the wartime Colt brush blue finish. The sides of the hammer are bright and the lanyard loop is case-hardened. The grips are smooth walnut with an oil finish and are correctly hand numbered to the gun. The butt of the revolver is marked: "U.S . /ARMY / MODEL / 1917" ahead of the lanyard loop and has the military serial number: "NO. / 149 / 428" behind it. The Colt serial number is visible on the inside of the frame and the cylinder crane. The underside of the barrel is stamped: "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" and the left side of the barrel is marked: "COLT D.A. 45". The top of the barrel is marked with the Colt Hartford address and the 1884, 1900 and 1905 patent dates in two lines. The Rampant Colt trademark is located on the left side of the frame behind the cylinder latch and the "eagle head / S20" Ordnance inspection mark is stamped on the upper left corner of the frame. "H" Colt provisional inspection marks are stamped on the rear face of the cylinder and the bottom of the barrel.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The revolver retains approximately 95% of the original military brush blue finish with some wear at the muzzle and high edges. The cylinder is a mix of thinning original blue finish and smooth gray patina with some signs of heavy cleaning. There are some minor tool marks on the upper frame ahead of the cylinder. The grips are very fine with signs of hammering on the bottom of the left panel, scattered minor dings and a pleasant hand rubbed appearance. All markings are clear. The action is excellent.
