Description:

This rifle was one of the most popular lever actions that Winchester ever produced, the "Gun That Won The West". This is a Second Model with the dust cover that operates on the central guide rail screwed to the receiver. Fixed dovetail German silver blade front sight with semi-buckhorn elevator rear sight on the barrel, which appears to have been shortened. The top of the barrel is marked "WINCHESTER'S-REPEATING- ARMS. NEW HAVEN. CT./ KING'S-IMPROVEMENT-PATENTED-MARCH 29.1866. OCTOBER 16. 1860.", "W W W" stamped on the left side of the receiver, and "W H/ 44 W" is scratched into the underside of the elevator."WWW" is stamped on left side of forward receiver (origin unknown). Serial number on the lower tang and the model designation on the upper tang. Oil finished walnut, smooth straight grip stock with metal forearm cap and crescent buttplate with storage trap.

Rating Definition:

Good as modified, with 20% of the original blue finish, showing a mottled brown and gray patina overall, with most of the original blue in the protected areas, a number of moderate dents and scratches, and some spotting and rust on the buttplate. The barrel has been shortened 1 1/4 inches. The stock is good as cleaned and partially repaired, with a light crack in the forearm, and some pressure dents and scratches. The action is good.
