Major Alfred Mordecai. USGPO, 1861. This commission was sent to Europe by the Ordinance Department to learn what was going on there in armaments. The 232 page report gives great details on Minie balls, later adopted in the country, "a-tige", needle fire and other breechloading systems with 21 plates and an appended report by J. Schon with a dozen folding plates. Good details on bullets, rifling, sights, cannons, etc.

Rating Definition:

Fair to good. The cover is scuffed and chipped with slight tears to the top and bottom of the spine. Considerable foxing but pages are sound and sharp.
