Description:

Blade front and notch rear sights. The upper barrel flats are engraved with simple geometric patterns mostly consisting of zigzag patterns with three gold inlay bands that extend to the side flats and a top flat silver rectangle inlay. The top strap is also engraved but with different, more distinctive geometric patterns and with silver inlays: 5 bands, a rectangle and a diamond with a circle missing. The saw handle grip features four various geometric silver inlays on both sides, a brass front strap and a silver star bust engraved back strap with a large rounded screw.

Rating Definition:

Good with the metal surfaces having been cleaned at one time and are now beginning to age again. There is light pin prick pitting with moderate flash pitting on the underside of the barrel. The brass has a smooth aged patina. The silver has a few very light spots of discoloration. The front strap has three added silver nails, likely from a period repair. The left side of the wood features a geometric shallow carved line near an inlay with the same curve, likely a period mistake when positioning the inlays. The grip has been repaired (besides the presence of a wraparound hairline crack, there are two silver nails), otherwise the grip is very good with some minor handling marks. The action is fine. From the Will Hoffeld collection, purchased from Parke Bernet in Los Angeles, Ca. in 1985.
